The Aviators defense created three turnovers in the first quarter, all of which resulted in touchdown drives.
On the second play of the game, Aviators defensive lineman John Iurato recovered a Gaels fumble, setting up a Frank Quatrone-to-Dylan Auriemma 25-yard touchdown pass, and a 6-0 lead. Joe Giancaspro converted the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
The next drive Iurato once again recovered a St. Mary fumble, this time returning it 30 yards to the Gaels’ 20 yard line. Iurato finished off the drive with a 13-yard run and Giancaspro once again converted the point after for a 14-0 lead.
The Gaels hopes to get back into the game were squashed at the end of the first half as Travis Culkin pressured the St. Mary quarterback into an errant pass in the end zone, which James Klenk intercepted, giving Heights a 14-0 lead as the quarter expired.
Quatrone hit Jasiah Purdie with an 80-yard pass on the first play of the second quarter, with Giancaspro once again converting for a 21-0 lead. The next Gaels drive ended in yet another turnover, as Sean O’Malley recovered a fumble, which set up the second act of Quatrone to Purdie, this time for 25 yards, with Giancaspro converting for a 28-0 lead.
Quatrone continued the scoring with a 59 run on a quarterback keeper, and his third touchdown pass of the day to Purdie, this time for 45 yards and a comfortable 41-0 lead at the half.
Quatrone ended the day passing for 177 yards completing all five attempts with three touchdowns, while rushing for 85 more yards. Purdie had four catches for 151 yards, and all three touchdowns. Heights gained 360 yards of total offense, primarily in the first half in building the big lead.
Hasbrouck Heights has a bye next week, returning with Depkin Field home opener against Secaucus.
